About Laura

I am passionate about helping children to develop their communication so they can realise their full potential. My aim is to ensure that children have the skills they need to communicate effectively, whether this means feeling more confident making friends, accessing learning in the classroom with greater success, or conveying basic wants and needs for those with more complex challenges. It is important to me that therapy is motivating and enjoyable, rather than a chore. I find this not only increases the child’s participation during sessions, but also their willingness to practise and implement communication strategies in everyday life.

I have always been fascinated by languages and communication and sought a career in which I could use my language skills practically to help others. After completing a Bachelors Degree in French and Spanish at Bristol University, I pursued my interests by going on to complete a Masters in Language Pathology (Speech and Language Therapy) at Newcastle University.

I have several years of experience as a Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS. I have worked across a variety of settings, including clinics, nurseries, mainstream schools, special needs schools and additionally resourced provisions. Alongside my independent work, I continue to work in the NHS specialising in deafness. I have a British Sign Language Level 1 qualification and am currently working on Level 2.

I have worked with a diverse population of children with varying communication needs and profiles, including:

Speech sound delay and disorder
Language difficulties and disorder
Social communication difficulties and Autism Spectrum Disorder
Complex medical and communication needs
Children with English as an additional language
Reluctant talking and Selective Mutism

I am able to provide a wide range of therapies to support children to develop their attention and listening, play and social interaction, understanding/use of language, speech, fluency and confidence.

I have delivered a variety of training sessions to parents, teaching staff and colleagues regarding the use of communication strategies and therapies.

Professional Memberships & Checks

I am a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP). I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and have an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Therapy Services

The following Speech and Language Therapy services can be provided:

Telephone consultation

If you have concerns about your child’s speech, language and/or communication, please feel free to get in contact. General communication advice can be provided over the phone based on the type of concerns outlined. If considered appropriate, an assessment can be arranged.

Initial assessment

The first appointment will consist of an initial assessment of your child’s speech, language and communication skills. It will involve obtaining a case history, getting to know your child and carrying out an observation and assessment.

Therapy sessions

These will be personalised sessions for your child targeting the development of specific speech, language and/or communication skills identified during the initial assessment. Therapy activities and communication strategies will be modelled, enabling you to support your child between therapy sessions. Speech and Language Therapy resources will be provided.

Re-assessment will consist of informal observations and structured assessment where appropriate.

Therapy can be provided online via Zoom. Interaction will take place in real time with the child and their parent/carer. This enables therapy to be accessed more flexibly, whilst also overcoming potential barriers of distance.

“Laura worked wonders with my son. As a consequence of her expert knowledge and constant support, he was able to start his Reception class knowing he could communicate confidently and effectively. I am very grateful for her professionalism and caring conduct.”

"Laura has been amazing and formed a fantastic professional bond with our son. Laura brought creative new games and activities to the sessions which were engaging and kept the sessions fun. The progress our son has made has been great and will help him greatly when he starts school. We can not thank her enough and highly recommend her."

"Just amazing! We did 7 sessions with my son who is 5 and he absolutely loved it and was excited to see Laura every week. Laura made the sessions very engaging and interesting even for me - just wonderful to hear how speech works. Laura has been giving us all the support for home to practise and it well and truly paid off. My son has done incredibly well and his confidence in talking and pronunciation is just amazing to hear. Big thumbs up from us."

“We have been seeing Laura for almost a year now for our 4 year old daughter. She has formed such a lovely relationship with our very shy little girl, and we look forward to her sessions every week. Laura has been a wonderful support to us not only during sessions, but also in giving practical advice making applications for Local Authority Speech Therapy. She has gone above and beyond trying to liaise with our daughter's school so we can get the support she needs in place and so that staff have all the tools and knowledge available to them to best help her in school. We feel very lucky to have found Laura, our daughter is improving and progressing all the time under her care, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend her!"

“Laura carried out a speech and language assessment for my 11 year old boy. It was a clear and thorough assessment in a professional yet welcoming and warm settings. My son felt at ease and fully engaged with Laura. We both left feeling very positive after the session. Her feedback was detailed, swift and reassuring."

"A huge thank you to Laura for everything she has done for our 4 year old son. Before my son had sessions with Laura he struggled with being understood and had difficulty with certain sounds. After only a few sessions with Laura she has corrected his sound difficulties and he is now speaking more clearly. He was also struggling socially and she took time to help him with his fellow classmates at school. She also gave tips and techniques to his teachers (and me) to continue her work. She smiled throughout and bonded quickly with my son. Thank you Laura for everything you have done!"

“I have had the pleasure of working with Laura for over a year and have found her expertise and advice invaluable. Laura’s support has changed the way in which I deliver my interventions, resulting in children making rapid progress in speech and language development, as well as impacting on their attainment in Literacy. Laura showed a fantastic understanding of children’s needs and abilities and she established a good rapport with all of the children she worked with.”
